NEW YORK - Zetek Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Fire Department of the City of New York to install Zetek's Wayfinding System at FDNY headquarters at 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn. FDNY officials and personnel observed, tested and trained on the Wayfinding System in operation at Lincoln Center's New York State Theater and stated that they were favorably impressed by its performance and capabilities. "I find this technology and its output extremely appealing and it can provide the right and simplified information to our responding Chief at the scene, as well as some of our remote command locations," Assistant Commissioner Donald Stanton said of the Wayfinding System.
The Wayfinding System will reside at FDNY headquarters and will run on New York City's recently installed NYCWiN wireless network. The citywide network will enable the Wayfinding System to provide the FDNY with indoor maps and detailed information for any building, all accessed on Web-enabled wireless devices operating on the NYCWiN network, as well as on computers at FDNY headquarters.
Zetek's Wayfinding System automatically generates routes to active alarms and depicts these routes on three-dimensional axonometric maps of the interior of any structure. The System's routing engine can also revise routes in real time based on changing conditions during an incident so that emergency workers, visitors and personnel can be guided around compromised areas and easily evacuated from the building. All building attributes including walls, stairs, elevators and doors, and life safety system equipment are represented on the Wayfinding System's building maps. Additionally, the Wayfinding System is self-checking and self-upgrading, and integrates with existing alarm and security systems within a structure.
